Kuniyoshi

To celebrate my friend Jill being accepted to teach in Japan next year, we went for a gorgeous meal at the Japan Centre's restaurant Toku in Piccadilly, before moving onto the Royal Academy of Arts to take a look at a collection of pieces by Utagawa Kuniyoshi. Produced in the 19th century, I was completely taken aback by how modern, subversive and humorous his prints are compared to other Ukiyo-e pieces I have seen in the past. Congratulations Jill!!

[Kuniyoshi is being shown at the Royal Academy of Arts until 7th June]
