Plato's Atlantis

This caused me many a life-threatening palpitation this morning. Last night, Alexander Mcqueen presented Plato's Atlantis. At the beginning of the show, a film shot by Nick Knight of Raquel Zimmerman (writhing around in sand with a couple of snakes & later morphing into a sea creature) was projected onto a screen behind the runway, before dark robotic arms carrying cameras flew across the audience, filming them and the models...

5th Element -esque, alien creations manoevered down the holographic catwalk in ten inch 'armadillo' platforms. Reptillian & desert colours morphed into tropical ocean hues - structured, couture-like, digital print pieces were covered in snakeprints and butterfly wings, whilst some of the white faced models even had prosthetic gills around their eyes (that took 3 hours to apply)...coupled with the transparent jellyfish organza - Mcqueen's beautiful hybrids could not fail to make a spectacle...

On livestreaming and setting up glass pyramids around the world to beam his shows into, Alexander McQueen says -

“This is the birth of a new dawn. There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve never dreamed were possible.” [fashiontoast]
