Elysium

Andrew Davie is really rather brilliant. I was lucky enough to watch him perform a live acoustic set at a recent work event - Home House Live, hosted by Raymond Weil (excuse the shameless plug). I love my job! He has such a pure, effortless voice.

Ashes to Ashes

In dedication to the Icelandic ash fall that's emptying the sky of planes at the moment, isn't it strange - reminds you just how small we are!

I think you're a Contra

Slow off the mark with this one, but I just cannot stop listening to Vampire Weekend's new album. Definitely my spring soundtrack. I'm trying not to over play it before my trip to Italy next month (I'm off to Bologne/Pisa/Florence and Cinque Terra over Easter weekend, can't wait). The title track I Think Ur A Contra as well as their latest single Giving up the Gun are my top two....

Elson's new album is produced by her husband Jack White (The White Stripes)and should be out this summer.

IRM

Charlotte Gainsbourg's new album IRM, is brilliant. Written and produced by Beck, my favourite tracks are Le Chat du Cafe des Artistes, Time of the Assassins and Le Collectionneuse...I wish I could speak French, it's probably the nicest language to listen to, don't you think?

Go here and here to watch her perform a couple of the new tracks.

I should probably pluck up the courage to see that film she was in, Antichrist, though something tells me it won't be as chilled as her music is...

Can I call you mine?

...July Flame - title track of the new album by Laura Veirs which has been getting rave reviews this week that I definitely can't disagree with. It's just the kind of music I love listening to on a lazy Saturday afternoon, check it out, if only for the cute split pin puppets!

Neon Gold Beat Company

Check out Neon Gold Beat Company's blog, I find myself enjoying pretty much every single song/remix they upload to this site and they have some gorgeous pictures every so often like the ones in this post (unsourced)...also watch the magical footage of William Dieterle and Max Reinhardt's 1935 beautiful silver screen adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream they've posted.

Louder than sirens, louder than bells

Kate Bush style cape swishing & flailing, Beyonce popping & strutting... plus long legs, leather gloves by Dominic Jones, a Manish Arora mask and one of the best songs from her album (aside from Cosmic Love) - Florence's Drumming Song video is (unusually) polished and OTT, but I can't stop watching it.

Marmite

People either love her or they hate her. Personally, I love Gaga, and hate Marmite. She doesn't care what people think, she wears what she wants, how she wants and there's noone else like her right now.

Jump in the Pool

Watching the Glasto coverage of Friendly Fires (FYI, the lead singer has hip swivels to rival Shakira) has pushed me into a blissful, summery mood and lead me to this gorgeous video of theirs. It reminded me of the following photos I had stashed away...

Only you can make you happy.

Packed with childlike melodies, dreamy synths and mantras, Au revoir Simone's new album Still Night, Still Light is all I can seem to listen to in this sunny weather. Summer soundtrack, check.

Check out David Black's pics of them at the Met...oozing effortless vintage style and grace

An addiction to hands and feet.

Regina Spektor's new album Far is out next month...here's one of her new tracks Dance Anthem of the 80s (it's all about 2min 3 secs onwards). I love her, Frida brows 'n all.

If you're a fan, I recommend youtubing her other newbies, Blue Lips and Laughing with.

Rabbit Heart

Tonight I'm off to see Florence and the Machine play at Smash & Grab, finally. I've been wanting to see her for yonks, and these photos taken at her latest video shoot have made me even more excited!

[By Alex Lake]

Update: Wearing a white tassled flapper dress and sky high gold heels, Florence was amazing live, performing plenty of powerful new songs (personal fave was Cosmic Love) as well as a spine tingling cover of the YeahYeahYeahs song Maps . She has such great energy, not to mention the longest legs I've ever seen. I think the last time I felt that happy after a gig was a couple of years ago when I saw Arcade Fire. I just wish I had tickets to see her again this summer!

Starry Eyed

When it comes to music, I mainly listen to chicks and Ellie Goulding is no exception.

Because I have no idea how to embed links or anything snazzy like that (tips please bloggers?), you will just have to go either here:

http://www.myspace.com/elliegoulding

or here:

http://neongoldrecords.blogspot.com/search/label/ellie%20goulding

...to check her out. And if you go to the second link, I'd scrape around that blog for Passion Pit's song Moth's Wings too, their new album Manners is magical!

Help I'm Alive

My friend Anika lead me to Metric's amazing new music video, shot by Deco Dawson. I've been playing their new album Fantasies on repeat for the past few weeks.

Oh how I wish I could steal the voicebox of Emily Haines...
