Melanie Pullen

In High Fashion Crime Scenes, Pullen re-creates vintage crime scene images she mined from the files of the L.A.P.D and county coroners office...it's supposed to 'employ the power of fashion to disguise and distract, and to draw our attention away from the otherwise gruesome subjects'.

An interesting idea, and there are some morbidly beautiful compositions...but it's a shame about the styling. I don't care how much Chanel and Bvlgari she threw at it, high fashion it is not. I'd like to see someone work on this idea properly, with the right styling it could have been stunning.

Dreamy Wander

Last month I posted a fairy shoot by Ellen Von Unwerth for Lula magazine...here's where it came from, the short film Dreamy Wander that she directed for Erin Fetherston, starring Zooey Deschanel - tripping out on magic mushrooms (!!) and meeting prince charming. Lovely.

Take a look at Fetherston's other past collaborations too (particularly the short film Dollhouse, featuring her range for Target)...and, of course, her current collections...

...hand me the rabbit mask and tulle.

Boys...

Listen up, if you wanna impress the girls (and guys) this a/w 09 I suggest you take inspiration from the following collections.

Phillip Lim

Thom Browne

Maison Martin Margiela

Long live the days of the dandy, The Sartorialist's latest pictures taken at Governor's Island made me smile and Style Salvage , The Sunday Best, I Luw Fashion , OOoOO & The Urban Gentleman are all pretty good sources for the latest in men's fashion. If anyone out there has any other recommendations I'd love to know, I've only just started exploring the boy blogosphere.

Fast Forward

I couldn't resist using a pun in my title...sorry...but yes, I'm skipping ahead a little by saying...this autumn/winter, forget Alexander Wang, it's all about Mark Fast's (geddit?) knitted body con dresses. Here are some gorgeous shots taken by Kasia Bobula for Dazed Digital, backstage at his a/w09 show.

I'm totally in love with the whole wet seal look too (I am more drowned rat than mermaid before a blow dry) and that one shouldered dress pictured in the last shot is divine.

Taffeta, knitting and leather, oh my!

Having just won a CFDA award for womenswear designers of the year (pictured above at the awards last night with Kirsten Dunst in a dress from a/w09), Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy's collections are a major source of inspiration for bloggers right now. That lucky little fashion hobbit, Style Rookie (literally little, she's only just turned 13) has recently been treated to a Rodarte cardi and tights by the duo, plus a behind the scenes peek at the collections.

Also, take a look at Dazed Digital's coverage of a/w09, including film footage of the show. I just can't get enough of the skeletal dresses and delicate knitwear from s/s 09 or the gothic patchwork metallics, marbled prints and wrinkled leathers from a/w 09...too many key pieces to count. Not bad for a label that was only started in 2005. Here are some of my favourites from past and present collections...

The Fashion and the Fantasy

Another amazing shoot from Vogue Italia's June issue...it's not hard to guess who by...

[Shot by Tim Walker, of course]

Walker's fascination with old country houses and bringing the outside inside will never grow old for me. I'm swooning over those Rodarte criss-crossed stockings (3rd picture down).
